 | About The Tests The Theory Test In order to pass your practical test, you must have previously passed your theory test. This consists of 50 multiple choice questions to which you must answer 43 or more correctly in 57 minutes. Don’t worry, it’s not an extremely hard test, but unfortunately you don’t get the option to have 50:50 or phone a friend. Providing you study enough you’ll be ok. The official theory tests books and the Highway Code are essential reading to prepare for this. If you are having difficulty finding these, click on the following link www.dsa.gov.uk. The second part of the theory test is the Hazard Perception. This consists of 14 video clips, each lasting about 1 minute, containing various hazards. It’s your job to identify the developing hazard(s) and acknowledge this by clicking the mouse button. The quicker you spot the hazard the higher you score. You can score a maximum of 5 marks per clip and there are 15 scoreable hazards, the pass mark is 44 out of 75. You will find out your result at the end of the test. The Theory Test expires after 2 years if you have not passed your Practical Test within this period. The Practical Test The Practical Test is approximately 35 minutes long, and you will be marked on items such as: observations, control, awareness and forward planning and manoeuvres. The best attitude to go into a driving test, and a way to keep the nerves at bay, is simply to imagine you are giving a stranger a lift somewhere and you want to prove to them you’re a good driver. You are allowed a maximum of 16 minor faults, and no serious or dangerous faults. You will be told your result and be debriefed at the end of your test, pass or fail. When you pass, bare in mind you are on a probationary period which lasts 2 years. In this time should you receive driving offences with points on your licence, amounting to more than 6 points, your licence will be revoked, and you will have to re-sit your theory and practical tests again! After Your Test When you pass, it doesn’t have to end there. The Pass Plus scheme is designed to heighten your driving ability even more, with the added bonus of considerably saving on your car insurance! It’s an informal course, lots of fun, consisting of town driving, night driving, all weather driving, country roads and motorway driving, with no test at the end! The whole thing takes a minimum of 6 hours and has proved to be most useful to everyone who has completed the Pass Plus. |
